About the Role

Job overview

Please note that this is an internal only role and therefore only current employees of Oxford Health are eligible to apply

Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Senior Named Nurse/Professional – Health Navigator to join the Multi-Agency Child Protection Team (MACPT).

This is a senior safeguarding role designed to strengthen the integration of health within multi-agency child protection systems. The postholder will act as a specialist health safeguarding advisor and system navigator, ensuring that health perspectives are fully embedded in decision-making where children may be at risk of significant harm.

Working in a dynamic multi-agency environment, you will support partners to meet statutory safeguarding duties under Section 47 of the Children Act 1989, providing expert advice, facilitating access to health services, and promoting a coordinated, whole-system approach to safeguarding.

This is an analytical, advisory, and facilitative role and does not involve holding a statutory caseload.

Please note that interviews are scheduled for Wednesday 10th June from 14:00 - 17:00.

Main duties of the job

As the Health Navigator within MACPT, you provide specialist safeguarding advice and act as the lead health advisor in multi-agency processes. You navigate complex health systems, identifying and engaging appropriate professionals across primary, secondary, and tertiary care to ensure timely access to expertise.

You contribute to strategy discussions and Section 47 enquiries, ensuring health risks, needs, and protective factors are clearly articulated and that decisions are proportionate and consistent. The role involves collating, interpreting and synthesising complex health information, presenting clear, evidence-based analysis to inform planning.

You support child protection and contextual safeguarding, including conferences and Risk Outside the Home (ROTH) work, ensuring adolescent health needs—such as mental health, trauma and substance misuse—are fully considered.

Working collaboratively, you build strong relationships across health and partner agencies, address barriers to access, and promote integrated working across early help, child in need, and child protection pathways.

You contribute to learning and improvement through reflective practice, audit and service development, and provide professional leadership where required, including supervision, consultation and workforce development.

You operate within multi-agency and co-located environments.
