An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen within R&D for a Band 7 Contracts / Research Informatics Manager, supporting our expanding research portfolio.

This is a part time 15 hours for 12 months, offering a fantastic opportunity to develop experience across both research contracting and informatics/data governance.

In this varied role, you will support the management of research contracts and play an important part in ensuring robust data protection, cyber security, and research set-up processes. You will work across a diverse range of studies and sponsors, contributing to the safe and compliant delivery of research.

You’ll collaborate closely with the Research Informatics Manager, MH TRC Mission Governance and Contracting Lead, and colleagues in Information Governance, Cyber Security, as well as external partners—helping to ensure all studies meet governance requirements and national frameworks.

We would particularly welcome applications from individuals with:

  • Experience or a strong interest in research contracting and governance
  • Knowledge of data protection (UK GDPR) within a research setting
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively

Main duties of the job

Working closely with the Head of Research Informatics and Governance and the Mental Health Mission – Translational Research Collaboration (MH-TRC), the Post holder will provide support with research contracting activities and targeted research data governance requirements across MH-TRC projects.

You will also be responsible for managing MH-TRC contracts such as CDA, Data sharing agreement, Partnership agreements, etc.
The post holder will lead and proactively manage a portfolio of research contracts and service level agreements (SLAs), integrating research informatics and data governance activities, including system oversight, data assurance, reporting, and compliance to support the delivery of research across a range of sponsors and services.

You  will provide support with managing the research informatics aspects of the research portfolio on behalf of the Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust (OHFT) supporting the Head of Research Informatics/Deputy Head of R&D.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Reviewing data protection and conducting initial cyber security screening for studies
  • Acting as the Trust’s point of contact for research informatics queries
  • Managing a portfolio of research contracts and reviewing standard agreements (e.g. DSA, DPA, CTA)
  • Act as a contract lead specialist for a defined research contract portfolio
  • To investigate and respond within agreed timescales to formal contract queries, in relation to data protection from our contract support team.
  • Supporting feasibility assessments and study set-up (including IRAS and data flows)
  • Providing expert advice on governance, data management, and compliance
  • Building effective relationships with sponsors and stakeholders

  • Knowledge of research governance and commercial study set up.
  • Research Contracting Experience
  • Educated to degree level

Desirable criteria

  • Project Management qualifications/experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of DPA 2018 and UK GDPR.

  • Knowledge of UK-GDPR in relation to research.
  • Knowledge of research governance and commercial study set up.
  • Knowledge of Research contracting

  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent level of knowledge, or professional qualification.

Desirable criteria

  • Extensive knowledge of the IG Framework, particularly in relation to research and Section 68, Consent for consent
  • Knowledge of research governance and commercial study set up.
  • Knowledge of HRA GDPR related guidance regarding controllers and processors in research.

  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
