We are recruiting for an Associate Medical Director to join our Bucks Older Adults Mental Health Team and provide expert leadership to our service. This is a part-time 2PA (additional programmed activities - APA) role for a fixed term of three years and subject to renewal of one further term of two years.
You'll work closely with the Service Director, Clinical Director and the Directorate Management Team to drive workforce planning, service transformation projects and recruitment of medical staff.
As a senior clinical leader in the speciality pathway, be available to provide support to other clinicians in management of complex clinical scenarios. This may include participation in Complex Case Panels where appropriate.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced clinician to join our leadership team and deliver clinical excellence across the Older Adult pathway in the Buckinghamshire directorate.
Main duties of the job
- To ensure quality care is delivered by medical staff and their good performance and leadership skills are promoted and fully supported.
- Working with the Heads of Service, Clinical Leads, Service managers and quality team in the implementation of clinically-related governance policies such as CPA, Risk Assessment, audit etc with clinical teams.
- To work with the Clinical Director, Service Director, other Associate Medical Directors and Associate Director of Nursing to ensure implementation of the Directorate’s clinical governance plan and other major Trust wide initiatives.
- Ensure that all medical staff participate in annual appraisals, job plan reviews and support the revalidation process for doctors as agreed with the Clinical Director. These will include job planning, performance management including of SPA time
- Completion of administrative duties such as approval of study and annual leave as required, approval of expenses and monitoring of mandatory training.
- To assist the Service Director, Clinical Director and the Directorate Management Team to ensure the most effective deployment of resources, including workforce planning, service transformation projects and recruitment of medical staff, (writing job descriptions, adverts), managing medical staff in line with MHPS & Trust policies supported by the Human Resources staff.
- As a senior clinical leader in the speciality pathway, be available to provide support to other clinicians in management of complex clinical scenarios. This may include participation in Complex Case Panels where appropriate.
- To be part of the directorate senior management team and undertake strategic project to ensure clinical expertise and leadership is available to the directorate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- The duties and management responsibilities of the post are set out above.
- You will have up to 2 identified programmed activities for performance of the duties of the post. The arrangement of your duties will be agreed by yourself and the Clinical Director and be subject to annual review
- Your performance against objectives and targets set between yourself and the Clinical Director will be subject to a formal annual performance appraisal.
- The tenure of the post will be for 3 years in the first instance and subject to renewal of one further term of 2 years. This contract will be terminable on 3 months’ notice, in writing, on either side.
- Any disciplinary action in relation to being Associate Medical Director will not affect your clinical contract.
